DIY Oil Change — Quick Overview

Warm the engine briefly so oil drains more completely
Remove drain plug, drain fully into a catch pan
Install drain plug with NEW gasket, torque to spec
Replace oil filter — apply fresh oil to gasket before installing
Add new oil to correct capacity per owner’s manual (typically 6 quarts for V8)
Check for leaks, verify oil level, reset oil life monitor
